Episode Transcript
You know, there was a time a long time ago that I wasn't a big fan of Christmas music.
But I want to tell you what, that's all changed.
You put your faith in Christ, a lot of things put change in your life.
That's why I promise you.
I love Christmas music and I love hearing about our God.
I love it, man.
It's just fantastic.
Well, we're glad to see everybody here today.
And before we get started, let me do this or I'll forget.
These are the verses we're going to be going over today.
And I'm getting a thumbs up from the camera lady there, so I guess it's okay.
But that'll be, now if you'll notice, there's a little A beside one.
That's the beginning of the verse only.
And there's going to be a little B beside one.
That's the second part of the verse or the last part of the verse only.
So there we go with that.
In case you were wondering what the A and B were.
Now what I've been told was that everybody hasn't eaten yet.
Or at this time they had some kind of, something happened and I'm not clear on everything that happened, but not everybody has had a chance to get their lunch yet.
So that's, we're a little, there's quite a few people out today.
So hopefully they'll get fed though before we get out of here today.
But anyway, with that said, we have been going through the book of Jude.
And we have almost got through verse eleven.
And where Jude says in verse eleven, now we're going to read verse eleven.
We're not going to go back to Balaam today because we got through with Balaam last week.
Thank you Lord.
But I'll tell you what, I mean it's always good to go back and revisit that.
But Jude says in verse eleven, he says, "Woe unto them."
Now Jude's been telling us about the ungodly.
And Jude says here, "Woe unto them," or grief unto the ungodly.
"For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaving of Korah."
So let's pray.
Heavenly Father we thank you so much Lord for this lesson that you blessed us with, to share with the people that come Lord.
And for those that watch on the internet Lord, we just thank you for tuning in to hear your word Father.
And Lord we just thank you for each and every thing you do Lord.
We thank you for your wonderful word.
What a blessing Lord.
And a short thank you for this study Lord.
Thank you so much.
We love you and thank you Lord.
Pray Lord that you're glorified here today.
In Jesus' name I ask you.
In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
Alright.
So now we have been studying about Cain, and we have studied about Balaam.
And those studies are in no way exhaustive studies folks.
We took a pretty good while on Balaam and in no way did I exhaust that.
So I would highly encourage anyone here to go back and do your own study on these two men.
And anything else in God's word.
Do your own study.
Open up the Bibles you have.
Read them.
Get in there and study.
Ask God to help you learn his word.
He will do it.
Look up the meanings of the words and where they can be found in different places.
And compare the text and enjoy fellowship with the Lord.
I can't tell you how many times I would just get up.
Thank you Lord for my study this time.
This is just wonderful.
You get in there and God starts showing you things.
And things start clicking and you just see things that you have never seen before.
Oh wow that's fantastic.
I can't tell you what a blessing it is Lord.
People you just need to get in there and look up.
Read God's word.
Get involved in it.
And you will love it.
Just look up the words and the meanings and everything.
And remember the closer you get to God the closer he will get to you.
The beginning of James chapter 4 verse 8 says draw nigh to God.
Which means near.
And he will draw nigh to you.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and the more you seek.
The more wonderful it just becomes.
I was telling the pastor today when I was at church I said I got my lesson and started studying.
I looked up.
Two hours went by before I even knew it.
Time goes so fast when you get in God's word and everything starts clicking.
God starts showing you things.
I love it.
So with that said let's see if we can learn a few more words today.
I had written down here if we can learn about the last man in our world today named Chorrol.
But we are not going to get to Chorrol.
Jude says at the end of verse 11.
And perished in the gainsaying of Chorrol.
Now what I just told you all a while ago that's what we are going to apply to this today.
We ask God for help to show us his word.
And we look at, we'll take a word and we look at that word.
What does that word mean?
So if you go back to the original text the New Testament is, the majority is from the Greek language.
So you have to take, like this word perish.
We are going to be looking at this word perish.
We are going to start by looking at the word perish.
The word perish is interpreted into the English from the Greek.
Now if you go back and you look up the Greek word.
If you look up perish and it takes you to the Greek you are going to see the Greek word.
The Greek, it comes from two Greek words actually.
The word perish comes from two Greek words.
The first word gives us the idea of separation.
Separation.
What are we doing when we separate things?
When I was younger and my brother and I would get into a fight.
My parents would separate us.
They would separate us.
They would get us apart.
Why would they separate us?
Because at the time we were harming each other.
Or we were about to harm each other.
We needed to be away from each other or separated.
Separated.
The other Greek word that the word perish comes from means to destroy.
To destroy.
And it gives us the idea of death and punishment.
When we put these two Greek words together we get the meaning for the word perished.
Which means to destroy fully.
To destroy fully.
Now what happens when something is destroyed fully?
There's nothing left is there?
There's nothing left.
When we are born, we are born separated from God.
Not because we had a fight with him and our parents had to separate us.
But because Adam sinned in the garden of Eden and was shown the exit door from it.
Adam had to be separated from God because he sinned.
God told Adam in Genesis chapter 2 verses 16 and 17.
And the Lord God commanded the man, talking to Abi, saying, "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat."
He had the freedom to do what he wanted to.
But verse 17 comes along and it says, "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it.
For in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
Adam disobeyed.
He ate of the tree, thus sinning against God and bringing sin into the world that we are born into.
We are born into this world.
You're here today in this room with me folks.
Guess what?
You were born.
The people out there in the hallway, they were born.
The people on the highway out there, they were born.
We were all born into this world.
We might have been born in different locations.
We might have been born in Japan or something.
But that's all in this world.
We are all born into sin.
We are born into sin.
There is no getting around that.
You can't get around it.
Why did Adam eat of that tree?
Because he did not believe what God said was the truth.
He did not believe God.
I've got a question for you today folks.
Do you believe what God says is the truth?
Yes.
Because if you do, God's word says in Romans 5 to 12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world."
That one man was Adam.
Adam brought sin into the world.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin."
And so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
You may be here today thinking, "Well, I just did a little sin."
You may be thinking, "Well, I'm not a sinner.
I've never done that."
Well, if you believe God's word is truth, then it says right here, "For that all have sinned."
Sin brought death into the world.
Sin is what makes these fleshly bodies break down and wither and eventually return to the dust.
I was talking with a gentleman the other day, and he was telling me that we were all going to die.
I agreed with him, and I told him that was true.
We do not have a choice whether or not we are going to die, but we do have a choice where we are going after we die.
We have a choice.
This word "perish" means to destroy fully.
If you die without forgiveness of your sins, you will perish.
You will be separated from God for eternity with no hope of ever being saved.
To destroy fully, you will perish.
1 John 1-8 says, which one did I mark in the Most High One?
1621.
That was John, okay.
I had it these days, I didn't mark.
1 John 1-8 says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
What is that?
Separation.
That is separation.
You are deceiving yourselves, the truth is not in you, you are separated.
You are separated from the truth.
1 John 1-10, "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
What is that?
Separation.
Separation from the Word.
Separation from the truth.
Separation from God, folks.
But there's good news here.
If we jump back to 1 John 1-9, it says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
What is that?
That's not separation, you know.
That's not separation.
This word, "confess our sins," you're not going to sit there and confess each and every sin you have ever done.
I watched a man on TV one time, and he was talking about that.
He was one of those preachers on TV.
He said, "Well, I went into the room, and I got with God, and I told him every sin I've ever done.
I changed the channel."
There's no way that would be impossible.
You don't know each and every sin you have ever done, but I can tell you one thing for a fact.
Jesus Christ died for each and every one that you've done.
You might not remember all of them.
You might not know all of them, but God knows them all.
And Jesus died for those sins, folks.
If we confess our sins or agree with God and believe Him that you have sinned and that you want forgiveness from those sins that only He can give, if you confess your sins, if you agree with God, "I'm a sinner, Lord.
I have sinned.
I believe you, Father.
I'm confessing it."
Whoo!
God wants you to come back to Him.
He does not want you to be separated from Him.
He does not want you to die in your sins and be separated from Him for eternity.
God has made a way that you can live with Him forever if you would just believe Him.
As we learned when we were studying about Cain, the second part of Hebrews 9.22 says, "And without shedding of blood is no remission."
That word means, remission means forgiveness.
Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of your sins, folks.
God only accepted Abel's sacrifice because He gave what God required, which was the shed blood of an innocent, or you could say sinless, substitute.
He did not accept Cain's offering because He did not bring what God requires.
And there's going to be so many people at the Judgment Day going to be doing the same thing that Cain did.
They're going to be bringing the work of their hands.
"God, didn't I do this for you?
God, didn't I do that for you?"
Jesus is going to look at them and say, "You are a part of me, you worker of iniquity, for I never knew you, for I never knew you."
God has made a way for us to be forgiven, so we do not have to perish through an innocent substitute that God Himself provided.
Let's turn to the book of John, chapter 3, and let's start at 16.
We're going to read 21 now.
John, right here.
There's going to be three.
Start right...
Sorry, John, I had you on the wrong plane.
That's a little...
John 3.
We're going to start off at 16.
Point right here.
You've got a soul of the world.
You've got a daughter.
John, for God so loved the world.
John 3.
16.
That's it, you got it.
Now remember the word we've been studying.
The word perish, right?
To destroy fully.
To destroy fully.
He says in John 3.
16.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.
His only begotten Son, folks.
That is an innocent, sinless substitute for you.
Sinless, innocent substitute for you.
He gave His only begotten Son.
That whosoever what?
Believest in Him.
That's right.
Whosoever believeth in Him should not...
Perish.
Should not perish.
Should not be fully destroyed.
But have everlasting life.
Ha ha!
Everlasting life.
That is not destroyed.
It goes on in verse 17.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world.
Or destroy the world.
But that the world through Him might be saved.
He that believeth on Him is not condemned.
Destroyed.
But He that believeth not is condemned.
Already.
But He that believeth not is condemned already.
Folks, if you don't believe in Jesus Christ, if you don't believe in Jesus died for your sins, was buried and rose on the third day, folks, overcoming death, you're already walking around condemned.
You're walking around condemned.
He that believeth not is condemned already.
Why?
Because He hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation.
That light is coming to the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
Now what is that?
Separation.
That is separated from the light.
The light is coming to the world and the men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
They didn't want to come to the light that their deeds might be.
I'm not giving you the truth.
For everyone that doeth evil, hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Separated.
They want to stay separated from God.
They don't want to hear the truth of God because the truth of God convicts us of sin.
And they don't want to hear that they are sinners.
They want to stay separate from God.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Those who believe God's truth seek forgiveness.
The three words, he that doeth, comes from a Greek word that has several different meanings.
But one of them was, "band together."
No more separation, but band together.
That doeth, he that doeth truth, want to band together, man.
I love that.
Woo!
That's good right there.
It comes from a Greek word, I say here.
I'm sorry, I wasn't on it.
You no longer want to be separated from God.
You want to be banded together with him.
You want to abide with God forever.
And this is what God wants for you too.
Agree with God, folks.
Now we're going to close here with 2 Thessalonians, and I've got you marked there in 2 Thessalonians, John.
We're going to be picking up here.
2 Thessalonians, chapter 1, verse 7.
Right here, 7.
Got you marked.
We're going to be closing with this.
You already got there, John.
Look at you.
Don't turn it over.
2 Thessalonians, chapter 1.
We're going to be at verse 7.
Right here, hand.
You got it, man?
You sure do.
That preacher's pretty handy when it comes to marking the books, ain't he?
There he is.
Alright, 2 Thessalonians, chapter 1, verse 7.
And to you who are troubled, rest with us.
Folks, if you don't know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are troubled.
Deep inside of you, you are troubled.
Every now and then you'll be wondering, well, you know you're going to die, we're all going to die.
Where am I going to go after I die?
How do I know I'm going there?
Oh, I don't want to go.
I hope I'm safe.
You're troubled.
But he says here, and to you who are troubled, rest with us.
Rest with us.
When the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God.
He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already.
Why?
Because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Jesus says, "Depart from me."
Why?
"I never knew you."
In flaming fire, taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ died on a cross for our sins.
He was buried in a tomb, and on the third day he rose triumphantly up from the grave.
He rose with a mighty triumph over his foes.
He rose a victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever with his saints to reign.
He rose, he rose, hallelujah, Christ arose.
I couldn't help it if that song came to mind.
That's so good.
And on the third day he rose from the tomb.
Folks, that's the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Verse 9, "Who shall be punished with everlasting," talking about people who don't believe now, the ungodly that Jude's been telling us about, the ungodly people, unbelievers.
"Who shall be punished with everlasting," or you could say eternal.
That word translates into eternal.
Destruction.
That translates into death or punishment, or you could say to destroy fully.
"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power."
No chance of coming back.
You are separated from God for eternity.
Full destruction.
Folks, last verse.
"When he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all them that believe, because our testimony among you was believed in that day."
Folks, I love God's Word.
I love telling you about how Jesus Christ died for our sins.
But I can't make you believe.
Only God can draw you to that cross, and only God can open your eyes to Jesus.
But only you can make the decision to seek.
Jesus says, "Knock and it shall be opened unto you," and he's not kidding.
He opened unto me and he will open unto you and he will open unto anyone who is seeking.
I promise you.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for this wonderful day that you've blessed us with.
We pray that you would come, Father, and share your Word with others for them.
We thank you, Lord, for those who have come, Lord, to hear your Word.
And I pray, Lord, that you would glorify here, Lord, through your Word, Lord.
And, Lord, I pray if there's one here or one in Squash, Lord, that doesn't know Christ as their Savior, Father, I pray that they would seek you, Lord, or talk to somebody about Christ, Lord, that knows Jesus as their Savior.
Lord, just I pray, Lord, that you would draw them to the cross, Father, open their eyes to Christ, Lord, as their Savior, Father.
Lord, we thank you and love you, and, Lord, it's just such a blessing to be here, Lord.
We're thankful for the ones that come to hear your Word, and thank you, Lord.
We pray, Lord, for the caregivers here, Father.
We just pray, Lord, that you would help them, Lord, to help these people, Lord.
And just be with them, Lord.
Just let them know you're here with them and that they're not alone, Father.
Let them know that you have them forgotten, Lord.
Father, thank you so much for all that you do, Lord.
We're just so blessed, Lord.
Thank you for each and every blessing you've bestowed upon us.
Thank you for your Word, Lord.
In Jesus' name we pray, Lord.
Amen.
