Episode Transcript
We left off last week in verse 8 in the book of Jude.
That's the one we left off last week in the book of Jude, verse 8.
And Jude says in verse 8 of the book of Jude, he says, "Lightwise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities."
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank You so much for Your Word, Lord.
Thank You, Father, for those who have come to hear Your Word, Lord.
I pray to You that You'll just teach through me, Lord.
Just let Your Spirit teach through me, Father, and edify the saints here today, Father.
We pray for the ones who don't know Christ, Lord.
That the ones here that You... they just be pointed to You, Father.
Help us to point to You, Lord.
Lord, thank You so much, Lord, for those who have come, Lord.
Thank You for saying, "Passage here to share Your Word, Father."
And we pray You're glorified here today, Father.
In Jesus' name, Lord, we pray.
Amen.
Amen.
Okay.
So, he says, "Lightwise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities."
Now, we said... last week, we said the words "Lightwise also," by the week 4, we said the words "Lightwise also" means "in like manner."
And the word "filthy" means "dirty, foul, unclean, nasty, and noisome."
We also spoke a little bit about how the word "filthy" was slanted to the right and did not look like the words around it.
Does anyone remember what we call those words that are slanted a little bit to the right there?
They look a little different.
Do you all remember what we called that?
"Italicized."
Those words... that word is in italics.
It looks a little different than the words around it.
These words are written in italics to show us that they are not a part of the original transcripts, but are inserted there by the translators in order to help us understand the translation from the original Greek word into the English language.
Now, last week, I said I thought this was a good place for the translators to have inserted the word "filthy" because it helps identify the ungodly men that we read about back in verse 4, where Jude says, "For there are certain men crept in on a word who were before a Lord ordained to this condemnation."
Ungodly men turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness and denying the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Now, I went back and I looked up the word "lasciviousness."
And one of the words used for a definition of lasciviousness was "filthy."
I thought that was so neat.
God's words are just so cool.
So, back in verse 8 of Jude, Jude says, "Likewise also these filthy dreamers."
Now, what is a dreamer?
The dictionary, and folks, it is so important that when you read a word in God's word and you do not completely understand the meaning of that word, please look up.
Look up what it means.
If you don't, you will get thrown off onto the wrong track and you'll be thinking something that is not true.
We always want to look up the words, the definition of the words, if we're not 100% sure what they mean.
The dictionary defines the word "dreamer" as number one.
One who dreams.
Number two, a fanciful man, a visionary.
One who forms or entertains vain schemes as a political dreamer.
Number three, a slugger, a mope.
And number four, which I thought was really interesting, a puffbird of the genus chelidoptera. genus chelidoptera, a puffbird.
I've never heard of that.
Now, since I am 100% sure that Jude is not referring to a puffbird here and a slugger is defined as one habitually lazy and inactive, let's look at the other definitions for the word "dreamer."
Number one, one who dreams.
The definition of dream is the thought or series of thoughts of a person in sleep, a series of thoughts not under the command of reason.
We apply dream in the singular to thoughts which occupy the mind of a sleeping person in which he imagines he has a view of real things or transactions.
Now, let's look at our second definition for a dreamer.
The second definition of a dreamer was a fanciful man, a visionary, one who forms or entertains vain schemes as a political dreamer.
The definition for a fanciful man is as followed, guided by the imagination rather than by reason and experience.
The definition of the word visionary is act to behold visions of the imagination, act to receive and act on mere fancies or whims as if they were realities, given to indulging in daydreams, reveries, fanciful theories or the like.
Number two, existing in the imagination only, not real, having no solid foundation, imaginary as a visionary scheme or project.
Dreams, whether daydreaming or fast asleep, are in the imagination.
That's what they all had in common.
They're not real.
They are in the imagination.
These filthy dreamers were taking what they saw in their dreams, in their imaginations, and they were acting them out in reality.
They were acting out what their imaginations had showed them in their dreams.
Do you know that's how Mormonism was created?
Through one man's imagination, the cult of Mormonism was created.
God knew that there would be dreamers who would point the people away from him and his statutes and laws, and that is one of the reasons why he said that they should be put to death back in the book of Deuteronomy.
Let's look at Deuteronomy chapter 13 verses 1 through 5.
I've got you marked there, John.
Deuteronomy 13.
You got it, John?
Deuteronomy chapter 13, we're going to read verses 1 through 5.
Deuteronomy 13.1 says, "If there arise among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder," number 2, 13-2, Deuteronomy, "and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, 'Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them.'"
Verse 3, "Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God proveth you to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul."
Verse 4, "Ye shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him and cleave unto him."
Verse 5, "And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he hath spoken to turn you away from the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way, which the Lord thy God commanded thee to walk in.
So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee."
So these dreamers, these filthy dreamers, they're pointing the people away from God.
They're pointing the people away from God's laws and from God's statutes.
God's Word tells us not to believe everyone that just comes along sharing their false beliefs.
Just because they have dreamed a dream does not make them truthful.
God's Word tells us "try" or "test" if what they are saying is true.
Let's look at 1 John chapter 4, and I've already got your job marked on that one too.
1 John chapter 4, excuse me, right back here John, right here.
I thought I'm back.
You almost crashed.
Right there.
We're going to look at 1 John chapter 4, and he says in verse 1, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits or test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world."
And I want to tell you, they were gone out into the world then, and they're gone out into the world now.
"Here God know ye the Spirit of God."
This is how you know the difference.
"Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God."
And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God.
And this is that spirit of anti-Christ.
Anti-Christ means against Christ.
"Whereof ye have heard that it should come, and even now already is in the world."
There are people that preach against Christ today in this world.
"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he that is in you, and he that is in the world."
They are of the world.
These filthy dreamers that Jude is talking about, they were of the world.
A lot of these pastors, so-called pastors that you see on TV, they are of the world.
What do they want?
They want your money.
They want your money.
They want you to send them money.
Why?
Because they are of the world.
"Therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them."
"We are of God, he that knoweth God heareth us."
"He that is not of God heareth not us."
When I'm at church, folks, or even when I'm here at my church, this is my church here today.
When our pastor gets to talk to me, he talks about the Word of God, I can't help but smile.
I know that God is real, and I love to hear about my God, folks.
And when I'm talking about God here, I like to smile too, because I know, I know, there is a better life to come.
"Hereby knoweth the Spirit of truth, and the Spirit of earth."
There is a difference.
The Spirit of truth is going to talk about godly things.
The Spirit of truth is going to talk about Christ.
The Spirit of the world and the ungodly is going to talk about ungodly, worldly things.
Do you need to go to her?
Shelly, you want to see what they want?
Excuse us for a second here, folks.
We've got somebody at the door.
Thank you.
He goes on in verse 7, he says, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth not."
He that loveth not, knoweth not, for God is love.
In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because God sent His only begotten Son to the world that we might live through Him.
Here in His love, not that we love God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the profiteation for our sins.
That means it's home.
But love, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
Now I want to tell you, false priorities, He's ungodly men.
They don't love people.
They're in it for themselves.
They're not in it to tell you about how Christ died for your sins.
They're not in it to tell you how you can be saved.
They're in it to tell you how you can save them by giving them your money.
They're in it to tell you how you can save them from whatever it is that they're in.
They're in it to tell you false lies.
That is not love.
Love is telling you that Jesus Christ died for your sins, and that you can be saved.
You can be forgiven.
There is a way that you can be forgiven, and that is through Jesus Christ.
That is called the gospel.
That is good news.
That is love.
But love, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
Verse 12, "No man has seen God at any time."
Some of these preachers on TV will say, "I saw God, and He told me blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."
I just read to you from God's Word what it says.
"No man has seen God at any time."
"If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us."
"Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us because He hath given us of His Spirit."
An ungodly person is not going to talk to you through God's Spirit.
"And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world."
Now remember, John walked with Jesus.
John saw Jesus in the flesh.
John walked and talked with Him.
"And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world."
This is first hand right from John to us right here through the inspiration of God.
"Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in Him and He in God."
"And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us."
"God is love, and He that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in Him."
"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment."
"Because as He is, so are we in this world."
"In the day of judgment, we may have boldness."
Whoo!
"I am in Christ and Christ is in me through faith on the day of judgment."
"When your knees bow before the Lord."
I'm going to tell them just like Peter told them.
"You know I love you.
You know I love you."
Whoo!
"I put my faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross to pay for my sins."
"On the day of judgment."
They're going to open that book.
Oh!
The Book of Life.
There's Brother Doug's name in there.
They told my son, "Whoo boy!
I'm excited for that day."
He says in verse 18, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love cast us out fear, because fear hath torn him."
"He that feareth is not made perfect in love."
"We love him because he first loved us."
"If a man say, 'I love God,' and hateth his brother, he is a liar."
"For he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen," "how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"
"And this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also."
Let's go ahead and read chapter 5 verse 1.
"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone that loveth Him that begat," "loveth Him also that is begotten of Him."
Verse 2, "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments."
"For this is the love of God that we keep His commandments, and His commandments are not grievous."
"For whatsoever is born of God, overcometh the world."
"And this is the victory that overcometh the world."
Even our faith.
Folks, if I am wrong, if I am wrong for telling you that forgiveness is given to you for all of your sins committed, against your Creator, Creator by you through faith, in the crucifixion of God's only begotten Son, then when we die, there is nothing else if I am wrong.
We die and that's it.
Our bodies just return to dust.
We just had that independence day.
Have you all seen the fireworks when they blow up?
What does a firecracker do when it blows up?
It goes into pieces, don't it?
There are some people that want to tell you that the world, the earth come together from an explosion.
They are saying instead of an explosion blowing something up like a firecracker does, if you have seen a firecracker blow up, it blows it up.
When that blows up, it don't come together, does it?
No, that's your lack.
But that's what some people want you to believe that the earth, when all these stars and stuff, they came together and blew up and all of a sudden they formed the earth.
What kind of nonsense is that?
But you know there are people who believe that.
Those people that want you to believe that?
Dreamers.
That is a filthy dreamer.
Some people, they want you to believe that when you die, you come back as a bug, or a frog, or a cow, or a blade of grass or something.
What is that?
Dreamers.
That's their imaginations telling you that when you come back, you are reincarnated as a bug or a cow.
Folks, I don't want to be reincarnated back on this old sinful earth.
When I come back to this earth, it's going to be under God's rule and it's going to be clean.
It's going to be sinless.
Sinless.
No sin.
What are those people?
They're dreamers.
They're believing in their imagination.
They're imagining things.
I believe Jesus Christ when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No man cometh unto the Father but by me."
I believe that.
I believe Ephesians 2a, "For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves."
It is the gift of God.
I believe that.
I believe God's Word, folks.
I believe we love Him because He first loved us.
I want to leave you with Psalm 130 verse 5, and I apologize for not marking it.
My wife told me to.
Psalm 130 verse 5.
This is our memory verse at church, by the way.
I love how the memory verse will just work right into our lesson here.
Psalm 130 verse 5.
He says, "I wait for the Lord.
My soul doth wait, and in His Word do I hope."
I believe in this right here.
I believe it with my whole being.
I believe it from Genesis all the way to Revelation.
And you know some people want to pick and choose what they believe.
They want to believe a couple of verses here and a couple of verses over here.
I believe every verse written.
I believe in God.
And I believe when we die, it is appointed unto man once to die.
And then the judgment.
I believe there's going to be a judgment.
I believe in this right here, you folks.
Please read your Bibles.
Please.
If you don't have one, please get with me.
My wife and I will do our best to get you one.
If you will promise to read it, we'll get you one.
Folks, if you're uncertain, if you're uncertain where you're going to go when you die, when this old body lays down for the last time and your eyes close for the last time on this side of the earth, if you're uncertain about it, please, while you have time, please get with me.
We'll sit down together.
We'll get some place private.
Nobody's going to know except God, you and myself.
We'll get together.
And we'll open this right here.
We'll let God show you how you can be saved and you can rest your head at night not worrying about it.
Your choice is yours.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for those that come to hear Your word, Father.
And Lord, we just pray for those, Lord, that are here today, Lord, the ones that couldn't make it because of illnesses, or other reasons, Lord.
We just pray, Lord, that Your perfect will be done in these people's lives here, Father.
We pray, Lord, for the lost, Lord, that they're appointed to You today, Lord, those that tune into watch, Father, we pray for them as well, Lord.
We just pray, Lord, that they would seek Your face, Father, while they still can.
We know, Lord, that night is coming when no man can work, Father.
We must work while it's day.
We sure thank You, Lord, for each and every blessing that You bestow upon us, Father.
We thank You, Lord, for the blessings that You're going to bestow on us, Father.
We thank You for Your love and Your mercy, and we thank You for Your grace, Father.
We sure thank You for the one that took our place, Lord.
Thank You for Jesus.
And in His name, Lord, we pray.
Amen.
