Episode Transcript
I can't tell you how much fun that is.
Whoo boy, it's a blast.
I sure enjoy it.
I can't tell you that one.
What a blessing.
Alright.
I thank God for the opportunity to come here and have fellowship with y'all.
It's just such a blessing.
What a blessing to my life.
And it's a blessing to see each and every one of you and I know some people are sick and some people are hurt.
We shall pray for them.
We pray for each and every one of y'all.
Every morning when we get up, we pray for y'all.
We just thank y'all for coming so much to hear God's word.
So last week, we left off in the book of Jude and we left off in verse 8 which says, "Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities."
We see here in verse 8 that Jude is not finished warning his brethren about the ungodly men who have crept in unawares into their congregation that we read about back in verse 4.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much for your word, Lord.
Oh, what a blessing, Lord.
We thank you for the opportunity that you brought us here to come here and share your word, Father.
And Lord, we just pray that you'll teach through us, Lord.
Help us to share your word, point people to you, Lord.
Help us to edify the saints and point people to you, Father.
Point the laws to you, Lord.
Thus is with the ability to share your word where others can understand it as well, Lord.
We thank you so much for your word, Lord.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
Amen.
So if we see here in verse 8 that Jude is not finished warning his brethren about the ungodly men who have crept in unawares into their congregation that we read about back in verse 4, "If you have put your faith in the gospel of Christ, then you are one of the brethren."
Thank God that Jude is writing to us too.
If you have put your faith in Christ, you are one of the brethren.
And this is written not only to them but to us as well.
We are being warned by Jude still today through God's word as though it was written only yesterday.
That is just amazing to me and that is only something God could do.
God's word has survived for many, many years and it still continues to do the same thing for mankind that it did back when it was first compiled as one complete book thousands of years ago.
And that is to teach us, warn us, and point us to the gospel of Christ.
Now I am in no way trying to limit the power of God's word.
There may be other reasons as well.
But so far in my study these are the things that I have found.
The devil has been trying for years to destroy God's word.
The devil doesn't want us to learn about God.
The devil doesn't want us to be warned and the devil doesn't want you to know about the gospel of Christ.
And I think it is a crying shame when someone takes the word of God and teaches it falsely, when it is written down for us right here in black and white to learn the truth.
Proverbs 12, 22 says, "Lying lips are abomination to the Lord."
That word abomination means something disgusting.
"But they that deal truly are his delight."
Proverbs 12, 17 says, "He that speaketh truth showeth forth righteousness, but a false witness deceit."
The beginning of verse 8 in the book of Jude says, "Lightwise also."
Now last week we said these words mean "in like manner."
Meaning not their manners or how polite they were, but their behavior, how they acted.
They were not messengers of the truth, but false witnesses.
Jude says, if you look back at verse 8 in the book of Jude, "These filthy dreamers defile the flesh."
Now if you look at the word "filthy," you will notice that it is a little wavy looking.
Are you all there, John?
Thomas?
Are you all looking at Jude?
If you look at verse 8, you'll see where the word, he says, "Lightwise also these filthy dreamers."
Now if you look at the word "filthy," you see how it's a little wavy looking?
It's not written like the rest of it.
It's a little wavy.
This word is what we call italicized.
It has been written in italics, which means the letters slant upward and to the right.
They're a little upward and to the right.
They're not exactly the same as the rest of the words.
Now I don't know if it's in y'all's Bible or not, is it?
Sheila, can you see what John's looking at verse 8 in Jude?
It is, okay.
That's what we call italicized.
It looks different than the rest of the words.
It has been written in italics, which means the letters slant upward to the right.
This lets us know that this word was not originally in the transcript of the word of God, but in order to translate the meaning of this verse from Greek to English, the translators inserted this word in order to help us get a better understanding of what Jude is writing to us about.
Usually what I do when I see an italicized word in a verse, I will reread the verse and leave the italicized word out and see if I can still understand the verse.
Now you have to be careful when you do this, because it is possible that you can lose the meaning of what is trying to be conveyed to you through the verse.
So let's read the verse again and leave out the italicized word.
He says in verse 8, we're going to leave out the word filthy because that's the italicized word.
He says, likewise also these dreamers defiled the flesh.
Now we know that Jude is talking about the ungodly men back in verse 4.
So putting the word filthy in front of the word dreamers was a good call on behalf of the translators in my opinion.
Because verse 8 goes on to say that they defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities, thus making them filthy dreamers.
The word filthy means dirty, foul, unclean, nasty, and noisome.
Now what I like to do sometimes when I'm looking up definitions of words such as the word filthy, when I see dirty I'll go back into my little Bible app and I'll type in dirty and I'll see how many verses come up with that.
And I'll do foul and unclean and nasty and noisome.
All these definitions of the word filthy I'll go back and I like to do that just to see how many other verses have this in there and try to get the concept of what's going on there.
Now what kind of dreamers were these ungodly men?
They were filthy dreamers.
Ungodly, unclean.
You remember the word for filthy?
The definition one of them was unclean.
They were ungodly and they were unclean.
If you haven't been washed by the blood of Christ then you are unclean.
What can, see I got this deal.
What can wash away my sins?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Ha!
That's how that song goes.
The godly had been bought with a price.
The godly had been redeemed through faith in the shed blood of Christ on the cross for our sins.
The second part of Hebrews 9.22 says without shedding of blood is no remission.
The word remission means freedom or pardon or forgiveness.
And that is something we all come into this world needing.
We all need to be forgiven.
Why?
Because we are all sinners.
We are born into sin.
Christ paid the price to redeem us from our filthy, unclean, sin covered cells and washed us.
Through faith in Christ our spirits are forgiven and when these old fleshly bodies laid down for the last time we can be assured that we will have an everlasting life with our maker and the rest of the godly.
Forgiven souls who choose to believe God.
Let's read Luke chapter 6 verses 12 through 19 and I have got that mark for y'all.
Luke chapter 6.
Luke chapter 6.
We're going to pick up at verse 12.
"And it came to pass in those days that he went out into a mountain to pray," talking about Jesus, "and continued all night in prayer to God.
And when it was day he called unto him his disciples.
And of them he chose twelve whom also he named apostles.
Simon whom he also named Peter and Andrew his brother James and John Philip and Bartholomew.
Matthew and Thomas and James the son of Alphaeus and Simon called Zalotes.
And Judas the brother of James, this is the same Judas who are real reading in Jude right here.
This is the one that wrote the book of Jude inspired by God.
And Judas Iscariot, you notice how they have Judas the brother of James and Judas Iscariot which also was the traitor.
They have him identified as two different people.
That way we don't get him confused.
"And he came down with them and stood in the plain and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of Judea and Jerusalem and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases.
And they that were vexed with unclean spirits and they were healed.
And the whole multitude sought to touch him for their virtue out of him and healed them all."
And healed them all.
And that's where we're going to stop right there on 19th.
Ezekiel 44, 23 says, and I believe we got you all marked there too, Ezekiel 44, 23.
Now we're talking about believing in Christ.
Ezekiel 44, 23.
"And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean."
Discerning means to know.
I believe that is some of what God is telling us here in the book of Jude.
There is a difference between the holy and profane or unholy, same terminology.
And there is a difference between the unclean and the clean.
If you are ungodly, you are unholy and unclean.
If you are unclean, you are unrighteous and will not inherit the kingdom of God at the judgment, but you will perish.
1 Corinthians 6, 9 says, "Know ye not, the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Be not deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate," which means soft or fine, gives a side up, fine clothing, people that have fine clothing, soft and fine clothing, "nor abusers of themselves with mankind." 6, 10 says, "Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, nor children shall inherit the kingdom of God; and such were some of you."
Or select.
"And such were some of you."
But here is a blessing right here.
You can be all of those things, every one of them things, all at the same time.
You can be a fornicator, you can be an adulterer, an adulterer, an effeminate, abusers of themselves with mankind, a thief, covetous, drunkard, a reviler, or extortioner.
You can be all of them things.
But here is the blessing right here.
But ye are washed.
You can be washed.
But ye are sanctified.
You can be sanctified.
But ye are justified.
You can be justified.
In the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of God, you can be all of those things, and you can still be forgiven.
You can still be forgiven.
These ungodly men could have been forgiven.
Let's close today by reading Psalms Chapter 1, verses 1 through 6.
Psalms Chapter 1, 1 through 6.
He should be marked there.
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly; blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly; nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful."
You could be all those things we just read about before 1 Corinthians.
You could be walking right along with them, doing what they're doing, walking right along with them, going their way.
But it says here, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly; all you have to do is turn from that walk and seek ye first the kingdom of God."
Ha ha ha!
"Ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God."
He goes on here in Psalm 1 to say, "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditate day and night, and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season.
His leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doest shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away."
Like the chaff that the wind driveth away.
They used to separate the wheat from the chaff, and they would drop that, those wheat seeds down in the chaff, and it would blow away.
But the seeds would fall down to the ground.
That's what they would pick up.
They didn't want the chaff.
God don't want the chaff.
The chaff's going to be burned in the fire.
God wants wheat.
The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
I want to point you towards Jesus Christ.
That is what I want to do.
I want to point you to God.
If you are ungodly, if you don't know Christ as your Savior, please seek ye first the kingdom of God.
You all know me pretty much.
We talk.
I'll sit down with any of you.
If you want to know Christ as your Savior, I'll sit down with you, just you and I, and we'll open this up together.
And we'll let God show you Christ if you want to know Christ as your Savior.
The choice is yours.
Don't keep putting it off.
Don't keep putting it off.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly.
That's what Jude, who Jude is telling us about, is the ungodly shall perish.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for allowing us to come, Lord, and to share your Word here today, Father.
I pray, Lord, that the sanctuary of the fire, Father, and the laws reported to you, Lord.
I pray, Father, that you just take your Word, Lord, and you show Christ's fire.
Draw them to you, Lord, before it's too late, Lord.
We know, Lord, that we need to work.
There's coming today, Lord, when it's going to be all over.
Father, we just pray for the laws, Lord.
We want to pray for those here, Lord, that are in pain, Lord, that in bad hell, Father, has failed, or broke their arm, or whatever, Lord.
We just pray, Lord, that you would let them know that they're not alone, Father.
Let them know you're here with them.
Just thank you so much, Lord, for all that you do, for all you do is good, Lord.
Thank you for the time that you blessed us to come here, Lord, to share your Word, Father.
It's such a blessing to come, Lord, and to do this, Lord, and we thank you for it.
Thank you so much, Lord, for all that you do, Father.
Thank you for your patience, for those that don't know Christ as their Savior, Lord.
In Jesus' name we pray today, Lord.
Amen.
