- All right, I'd like to welcome the new people.
Nice to meet y'all.
I'm so blessed that y'all are here.
I tell the people that come here, faithfully ever, some even, just such an encouragement for me to keep coming back and sharing God's word when people come to hear you.
It's just such a blessing to me.
And I'm just thankful that y'all come to hear God's word.
Okay, with that said, my name's Doug Sexton.
I met y'all earlier and we're fixing to jump into the Word here when we're ready, here we go.
Thank you, Brother Larry, for the song lead.
And after we finish here, we got one more song, I believe.
So, yep.
Last week, we left off in verse 15 in the book of Jude, which says, now I'm gonna go ahead and start at verse 14 to keep us in context.
That way, we're not jumping out of context.
We're gonna start in verse 14 of the book of Jude, and we're going to read verse 15 all the way through it.
So here we go.
Jude says, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, 'Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints to execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds, which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches, which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for your precious word, Father.
We thank you for those, Lord, that come here, Father, and we just pray, Lord, that you would just let your spirit just teach us here today, Lord, and your word would just go forth here, Lord, and that the saints would be edified, and that the lost are pointed to you today, Lord.
We thank you and we love you, Lord.
Thank you for your wonderful word, Father.
In Jesus' name I pray, amen. - Amen. - All right, please just bear with me.
My allergies have gone crazy, so I'm trying to fight all that.
Now, we discussed the word ungodly, and by the way, I teach verse by verse, so when we stop at one spot, I try to pick it right back up the next week.
So we go verse by verse in our teaching.
Now last week we discussed the word ungodly.
We learned that the word prefix means to put or fix before.
Now it might just be me, but when I see the word prefix, it makes me think of repairing a problem before it occurs.
Prefixed.
The letters BRE are derived from the Latin word Pre, P-R-A-E, which means before.
If you think about it, the word prefix is actually a prefix itself in that regard.
Looking back at our text, the word ungodly has the prefix of UN the word godly.
The prefix UN we learned last week means not.
N-O-T, not.
I used the example last week of cooked and uncooked and Don, Don's not here today, but Don and I came to the understanding that neither he nor I want to eat any uncooked or not We like our cow cooked.
So we enjoy our cow cooked and not raw.
The word ungodly gives us the idea of not godly.
Not godly.
The ungodly do not reverence the Lord our God, meaning they do not fear him, they do not respect him, and they do not love him.
My personal opinion is that is because they don't know our Savior Jesus the Christ.
Because if they only knew the one who gave his life for all, reverence will follow, I guarantee you.
And the only reason they don't know Christ as their Savior is because the ungodly choose not to believe.
Joshua said, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve."
So with that said, let's look at Deuteronomy chapter 30.
And I got y'all hearted in that.
Deuteronomy chapter 30, and we're gonna read verses 15 through 20.
While they're turning there.
Oh, while they're turning there, I forgot about this.
All right, these verses we're going to be going over today, folks.
I'm sorry about that.
Up or thumbs up?
Okay, that's thumbs up.
That's not up.
So yeah, camera lady is saying that's good right there.
So these verses we're going to be covering today, and I'm sorry I jumped ahead a little bit, but here we go.
There we go.
>> This is a new or old testament?
>> Deuteronomy is an old testament, Mr.
Bill.
>> Okay.
>> Deuteronomy is an old testament.
>> Okay. - Alright. - Alright.
Deuteronomy 30, 15.
God says, the Lord says, "See, I have set before thee "this day life and good, and death and evil.
"Do you see how life and good go hand in hand, "and death and evil go hand in hand?"
Psalm 68 20 says, "He that is our God is the God of salvation, and unto God the Lord belong the issues from death."
Issues from death.
Issue, issues used here means exit or deliverance.
Now what is the deliverance from death?
Jesus Christ, folks.
Jesus Christ.
Psalm 1611, thou wilt show me the path of life.
In thy presence is fullness of joy.
At thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
Before I was saved, in hindsight, I truly had no idea what real joy was.
Sure, I was joyful in many different things, but it was not until God the Father opened my eyes to His Son dying on the cross for every sin I had ever committed and the ones that I would commit in the future that I got to lay my sin debt down.
And being relieved of that and knowing that my time here in this world is over.
I am forgiven by the Father and I know I will spend eternity in His presence in more joy than I could ever imagine because He says in His presence is fullness of joy.
And folks, you can't get no more full than full.
Jesus said in John 14, 6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No man cometh unto the Father but by me."
What I want to do is point you to life, folks.
I want you to see the one who gave his life in order that you might have life eternal with our Creator.
Jesus said in John 10, 9 through 11, I am the door.
By me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.
And shall go in and out and find pasture.
By me, Jesus says, ye shall be saved.
How?
By me.
Through Christ.
John 10, 10, "The thief cometh not, "but for to steal and to kill and to destroy."
What is that?
That's ungodly, isn't it?
That's ungodly.
Jesus says, "I am come that they might have life "and that they might have it more abundantly."
That's right, isn't it?
That's right.
The two words more abundantly are translated from the Greek word perisos, perisos in the Greek, and mean superior in quality, superior in quality.
Think about that.
That tells me that there is a better life to come after I leave this life here in this sin-filled world.
But I can only obtain that life through believing in the one who promises it, and that is Christ.
John 10, 11, "I am the good shepherd.
"The good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."
Are you Christ's sheep?
If you believe Christ gave his life in order to pay your sin debt, guess what?
You are.
You are.
Now back in Deuteronomy, Deuteronomy 30, 16 says, "In that I come," oh, let's start at the first.
He says in Deuteronomy, so we just stay in context here, "See, I have set before thee this day life and good "and death and evil."
Deuteronomy 30, 16.
"In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, "to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments "and his statutes and his judgments that thou mayest live and multiply.
And the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.
But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, what is that?
That is refusing to reference God.
That is refusing to reference God.
Verse 18, Deuteronomy 30.
I denounce unto you this day that ye shall surely perish and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land whether thou put a passest over Jordan to go to Bethesda.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing.
God says, "Therefore choose life "that both thou and thy seed may live, "that thou mayest love the Lord thy God, "and that thou mayest obey his voice, "and that thou mayest cleave unto him."
What is that?
That's reverencing God, folks.
That's reverencing God.
"For he is thy life and the length of thy days, "that thou mayest dwell in the land "which the Lord sweareth to thy fathers, "to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them."
Proverbs 22, one.
"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, "and loving favor rather than silver and gold."
What name do you choose?
Godly or ungodly?
If you have not chosen, you have made your choice.
By not believing that Christ has died for your sin debt, you choose to die for your sin debt. and you will pay for that debt for an eternity in fire and torment.
Let's get back to the book of Jude in verse 15 and read to the word "deeds".
We're going to read down in verse 15, he says, "To execute judgment upon all and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds."
Ungodly deeds.
This word "deeds" is translated from the Greek word "ergon" and means "to work" or "toil."
This word gives us the idea of our acts or deeds.
Jesus said in the book of John 3, 16-21, as we start to close this down today, 3.16, y'all have the little mark up a little.
If you don't, you probably know this passage of Scripture.
Probably know it by heart.
For God so loved the world, if you know it, you can say it with me.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, that means to punish.
Not this time.
Over here where Jude is talking about, He's coming back folks.
This time He's coming back to punish.
To execute judgment upon all and to convince, that means to convict. but that the world through him might be saved.
Like I said last week, when Jesus comes back, he ain't coming back with a pocket full of second chances.
He's coming back as judge.
He comes back.
He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already.
That word condemned means punished.
"Because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Unbelievers will be condemned.
Unbelievers will be punished.
That's not Brother Doug saying all that.
That's God's Word right there saying it, folks.
And this is the condemnation or the punishment that life is coming to the world and men love darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.
That word deeds used here is the same Greek word ergon, used back in Jude, verse 15.
John 3.20, "For everyone that doeth evil, the ungodly, "hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, "lest his deeds should be reproved."
Jesus said in John 8.12, "I am the light of the world.
"He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
The ungodly refuse to accept Christ as their Savior.
Therefore refusing the light and choosing to stay in darkness and choosing death and evil as we learned in Deuteronomy chapter 30 verse 15.
They choose death and evil.
Jesus said in John 3.21, "But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."
The word wrought comes from the same Greek word ergon, meaning to work or toil.
Jesus has already done all the work in order that your sin debt be paid in full, folks.
All you have to do is believe.
John 3.36 says, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life."
I'm going to say it again because I like it.
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life."
That's God's Word, folks.
But there's a flip side to that coin.
"And he that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him."
"The wrath of God abideth on the undied."
Remember the word "UN" that preface means "not."
The wrath of God will be on those that choose not to believe in Christ, folks.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for this wonderful word, for your wonderful word, Lord, and for this lesson that you've blessed us with with the folks here today, Lord.
We pray, Lord, that the lost were pointed to you, Father, and that you would just draw them to the cross, Lord, and show them Christ, and that they would heed that call, Lord, that you've given them, and that they will repent, Lord, and that they will turn to the cross and see Jesus Christ dying for their sin dead, Lord.
Lord, we know the wages of sin is death, Father, and sin must be paid for, Lord.
We pray, Lord, that if there's one here that doesn't know Christ, Lord, that you will show them that those wages have to be paid, Father, and show them, Lord, that they're the ones to pay it without Jesus, Lord.
Lord, we sure thank you so much for Jesus, Father.
We thank you for your Holy Spirit, Lord, and we thank you for each and every thing that you do, Lord, because all you do is good, Lord.
Even your judgments are good and righteous, Father.
Lord, we wanna pray for those that are here, Lord, that are recovering, Lord, from surgeries.
We thank you, Lord, for the ones I met this morning sitting in their beds, Lord.
They can't get out of their beds, Father.
And Lord, we know that time is short here, Father, And that time that we can't give is coming.
It's coming to each and every one of us, Lord, someday.
And we pray, Lord, that they put Christ first, Lord, before that day comes, Father. - Amen. - We thank you, Lord, and we pray for the recovery of those that are here today, Lord.
We pray your perfect will be done in each and every person's life that's here today, Father.
And if there's one that strayed from the path here today, Lord, we pray, Lord, that you would guide 'em back onto the path, Father.
We thank you and love you so much, Father.
Wanna pray for Miss Mary's husband, Lord?
We pray you're will be done in that matter as well, Father.
We miss him when he's not here, Lord.
We miss each and every person when they're not here, Lord, to come and hear your word.
And we're so thankful for the ones that do come, Lord, to hear your word.
We thank you and love you, Father.
Pray for the caregivers that are here, Lord, pray for them to care for these folks Lord as if they want themselves to be cared for and as you want to be cared for as well Lord.
We pray your will be done here on earth Lord as it is in heaven Father.
We thank you and we love you Lord.
We ask these things in Jesus precious name today Lord.
Amen.
