Episode Transcript
Well hello everybody, hope you had a wonderful week.
Yes, you did.
I was telling my wife earlier This morning I got to go hear our associate pastor talk about the Lord.
Then I got to hear our pastor talk about the Lord.
And now I get to come and go talk about the Lord myself.
Oh boy, I'm excited.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed God's Word.
It's just so wonderful.
It's changed my life.
Alright, so according to my notes, I got wrote down here.
Good afternoon, everyone.
Good afternoon.
Good afternoon.
Now, last week we stopped at verse 17 in the book of Jude.
As we go through the book of Jude verse by verse.
Now today, God willing, we'll be expounding verse 18 in the book of Jude.
But let's start our reading in verse 17 to help us in context.
And we'll be going to a couple more verses behind that just to help keep us in context.
But we'll start off with reading verse 17 in the book of Jude.
Jude says, but beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for this time that you blessed us with, Lord, to come together, Lord, and to share your word and to learn from your word, Lord.
And we pray, Father, that you'll just Your Spirit will just teach us here today, Lord.
Help us to have attentive ears, Lord, and to pay attention, Lord, and to hear your Spirit speak.
Just talk to us today, Lord.
Share your word with us, Lord.
Guide our thoughts, Lord.
And we thank you so much, Lord.
Thank you for Jesus.
Thank you for each and every person that's come to hear your word, Lord.
I want to pray, Lord, that the saints are fed, Lord, that the laws are pointing to you here today, Lord.
We thank you for all that you do, Lord.
In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.
Okay.
So as we get into verse 17, as we get into verse 18, before we do, let's Just go back just a little bit and let's look at verse 14 and 15 because in verses 14 and 15, Jude tells us that all the ungodly will be convicted by our Lord, who is a holy and righteous judge.
You will never find a more honest and fair judge than our Lord, folks.
Amen.
The ungodly will be convicted because of their ungodly deeds. which they have ungodly committed, and of their hard or their dry speeches which they have spoken against the judge.
The ungodly do not point people to the death of Christ in order for them to be saved.
And if they do, they want to add something to it.
Christ did all of the work, folks.
All you have to do is believe God.
Amen.
Amen.
1 John 5:10 says, He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself.
He that believeth not God hath made him a liar.
Why?
Because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
The word witness is translated from a Greek word that means evidence.
When you agree with God and believe him that he sent his beloved son to die for your sins, Then God will send His Holy Spirit to dwell with your Spirit.
And I can't help but wonder if when we are being judged God's Spirit stays right there with us at the judgment and represents us as our witness.
The last part of Hebrews 13, 5 says, For he has said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.
I can't help but think that he's going to be with us all the way.
1 John 5, 11 says, And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
Where does God's word say eternal life is?
This life is in his Son.
Not in a prayer someone told you you had to say over and over.
Not in walking down the aisle of a church somewhere and kneeling at some steps a preacher called an altar.
Not getting into a water baptismal.
You want eternal life?
This life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12.
He that hath the Son hath life.
Amen.
And he that hath not the Son hath And he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Cut and dried.
That's simple.
That's pretty plain.
That's pretty plain.
The ungodly do not have eternal life, but eternal death shall be their home forever and ever because they have not believed God They have not the witness within themselves, and therefore they cannot point you to the refreshing, life-giving words of the gospel of Christ.
Verse 16 of Jude says, these are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts.
And their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.
The word, their words are the words of someone who is just trying to advance themselves.
Move up in this old sin-filled world.
And they usually do it by trying to get your money.
They want to tell you things that will benefit themselves.
Jude says here in verse 17, but beloved.
Remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
There has.
To be a contradiction here, or else Jude would not be saying this.
The ungodly were saying something different than the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ were pointing people to Christ as their Savior, and the ungodly were not.
That gives us something to ponder, folks.
Something each and every one of us needs to ask ourselves.
Who are we going to believe?
We can either choose to believe the words of the ungodly, or we can choose to believe the words of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, who said in verse 18 of Jude.
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lust Yesterday, the camera lady wanted some Chinese groceries for lunch.
So we went to eat Chinese groceries for lunch.
As we went in, We passed by one of her co-workers there, Edith, and I told her there's so-and-so over there.
We then proceeded to our table and ordered our drinks. and then proceeded to fill some plates with some Chinese groceries and then sat down to start eating.
After about five minutes The camera lady looked over at me and said, Hey, there is so-and-so over there from my work.
And I looked at her and said, I told you that when we walked in.
What I said to her was not heard because of one of two things, Les.
One, her hearing is shot, and she and Miss Tammy Understand why.
Now that's kind of an inside joke.
And two, she just wasn't paying me any attention when I spoke.
She had to.
She had her mind on Chinese groceries.
And what I had to say Furthest from her mind.
Yep.
Now, maybe it is a little bit of both.
I'm not for sure, but the point I am trying to make here is.
That you were not there to hear the words spoken of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, as my wife was there to hear the words I spoke.
We were not there to hear the words spoken.
By the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But they have been written down for us to read the words.
Spoken of our Lord Jesus, of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And they are here in God's word, and we need to be paying attention to those words, Lord.
Don't just let them fly by.
Read your Bibles, folks.
The words spoken by false teachers will contradict what the apostles say.
And the way you recognize the contradiction is to get familiar with what God's word has to say compared to what false teachers say.
And the words of the apostle say here in verse 18.
That they told you there should be mockers.
The word mocker comes from a Greek word which means a derider.
Which means one who laughs at another in contempt.
When God told Noah to build an ark, he never questioned God.
When God told Noah to bring in the animals into the ark, Noah did what he was told of God.
He never stepped back and laughed at God and said, you want me to build what?
You want me to do what with those animals?
Put them on an ark, ha!
Noah never laughed.
He never said, You've got to be kidding me.
It can never be done.
That can't be done, Lord.
He never said that.
Noah did not laugh at God or mock him.
He never derided God.
Genesis 6. 22 says, Thus did Noah, according to all that God commanded him, so did he.
Noah never mocked God, but believed God.
There is nothing too hard or impossible for God.
And the more I live on this old earth, the more I'm seeing that to be true.
Jeremiah 32:17 says, Ah, Lord God.
Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing.
Too hard for thee.
Nothing too hard for God.
The Pharisees, however.
Were some of the false teachers of their day.
They wanted to add rules and regulations to being saved, and therefore they did not want people to believe in Christ as their Savior.
They wanted people to do works that they had made up apart from the finished work of Christ, that the Old Testament told them to believe in.
Every time they got a chance, they tried to belittle Christ and make fun of him.
In the book of Luke, chapter 16.
Jesus has just finished telling a parable to his disciples about serving God and man.
And the Pharisees had been eavesdropping on their conversation.
After speaking, the Pharisees decided to chime in, and they wanted to make fun of him in front of his disciples.
In Luke chapter 16, verse 14, it says, And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, Heard all these things and they derided him.
They laughed at him.
They mocked him to his face in front of his disciples.
And people are still doing that today.
I wonder how much of that they will be doing when they are in front of him in judgment.
Let's start to close today by reading Matthew 27.
We're going to start in verses 27.
Should have y'all marked.
Matthew 27.
Matthew 27, we have the death of the East.
Oh, you almost got already.
Matthew 27, okay, We're going to start again Matthew 27 and we're going to start in verse 27.
27, 27.
Everybody got it.
Matthew 27, start at verse 27.
Matthew 27.
One seven.
Don't start at one seven.
You're welcome.
We good by there?
Now as we read these, I want you to listen for the word mocker or mocking.
27, Matthew 27, starting at verse 27.
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
And they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe.
And when they had planted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand.
And they bowed the knee before him and mocked him.
Saying, Hail, King of the Jews.
And they spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head.
And after that, they had mocked him.
They took the robe off from him and put his own raiment on him and led him away to crucify him.
And as they came out, they found a man of serene.
Simon by name, him they compelled to bear his cross.
And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha. that is to say, a place of a skull.
They gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall, and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
And they crucified him and parted his garments, casting lots that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet.
They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots, and sitting down they watched him. and set up over his head his accusation written, This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left, and they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads.
And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, save thyself.
If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Likewise also the chief priests mocking him with the scribes and elders.
Said, he saved others.
Himself he cannot save.
If he be the king of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and he will be, and we will believe him.
He trusted in God.
Let him deliver him now.
If he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God.
The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
They mocked him.
They ridiculed him.
They spit on him.
They made fun of him.
And it just blesses my heart knowing that at any time Jesus could have turned around.
They said, that's enough.
That's enough.
I'm not going to do this no more.
But for my sins, He stayed and took every bit of it.
He suffered for my sins and he took it all All the mocking, all the pain, all the suffering and misery, he stayed and took it.
For my sins.
Amen.
And he did the same for your sins.
But I want you to see here.
I want to picture us.
I want to look at these two thieves.
I want to look at the two thieves.
There were two thieves being crucified on separate crosses the day Christ was crucified.
They both mocked him too.
After hanging there for a while, one of the thieves started to think about what he had done.
If y'all want to turn to Luke 23, we're going to pick up right there.
Luke 23.
Luke 23, we're going to pick up with the two things.
One group two before we Wow.
Should that be marked or conscious?
Now both of these thieves mocked him.
And after they hung there for a while, one of the thieves started to think about what he had done.
Luke 23, 32, and there were also two other male factors, talking about the thieves, led with him to be put to death.
And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment and cast lots.
And the people stood beholding.
And the rulers also with them derided him.
Mocked him, derided him, saying, He saved others, let him save himself.
If he be Christ, the chosen of God.
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, and saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
He wasn't there to save himself, folks.
He was there to save me, man.
He was there to save you.
And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew.
This is the king of the Jews.
And one of the male factors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
Now the other thief hanging there on that cross has had time to think.
He's been hanging there a little bit.
And he's starting to think.
What's going to happen to me after I die?
Folks, don't wait until you're on your deathbed.
To sit there and start thinking about what's going to happen to you after you die.
Now's the time to think about what's going to happen after you die.
You can only hang on that old cross so long before it's time to go.
But the other answering rebuked him.
Say, dost not thou fear God?
What is that?
That's reverence.
Dost not thou reverence God.
The ungodly do not fear God.
They do not reverence God.
They do not believe God.
He says, see now are in the same condemnation.
He sits there on that cross, one on the other.
Both of them, one on one side of Jesus, one on the other, and they're all hanging there on that cross together.
They're all fixing to die together.
And the one's rebuking the other one.
Don't you realize you're fishing to die?
Don't you realize this is fixing to be over with it?
Folks, don't you realize this is not going to last forever?
This is not going to last forever.
There comes a time when this body is going to lay down for the last time.
Dost not thou fear God Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation, and we indeed justly.
He realizes he's there for a reason.
He's fixed to be judged for a reason.
He broke the law.
He's a thief.
He got caught.
And he's fixing to go pay the price.
He realizes it.
He knows it's coming.
And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds.
But this man speaking of Jesus hath done nothing amiss.
Jesus led a perfect life.
They crucified him anyway.
He did nothing wrong.
They crucified him anyway.
The thief says, I did something wrong.
He's admitting he's a sinner.
I sinned.
But this man hath done nothing amiss.
And he said unto Jesus, He's looking to Jesus and he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
He admitted he had sinned.
He sought Christ for forgiveness.
He didn't come off that cross and go walk some aisle in a church somewhere and kneel down at some steps of a preacher called an alternate He did not come off that cross, go get in water baptismal.
He simply admitted he was a sinner.
He knew he was a sinner.
He went to Jesus and asked for forgiveness.
That's it.
Daniel 12, 2, and we'll close with this.
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake.
Some doesn't say all some to everlasting life.
And some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Folks, don't wake up to shame and everlasting contempt.
You don't have to.
The choice is yours to make no matter how bad you think you've done it, no matter how many sins you've committed.
No matter what you think is so bad that cannot be forgiven, I'm going to tell you, you can be forgiven.
Is there anything too hard for God, folks?
Jesus Christ stayed on that cross for you.
Is there anything too hard for God?
You can be forgiven.
If he can forgive me in my past life, folks, I promise you he can forgive you.
If you don't know Christ as your Savior, and you want to know Christ as your Savior.
If you want somebody to help you, point you to it, I will sit down with you.
And we will open this up together.
And we will let God show you.
Well, I'm not meaning all that, God.
You know what I mean?
We will sit down together and open up God's Word.
And if you truly want to know Christ as your Savior, He will show you.
Heavenly Father, we thank you so much, Lord, for your precious word, Lord.
Thank you, God, for this lesson that you blessed us with here today, Father.
I sure pray, Lord, that it point people to you, Father.
And it will point people to Christ.
And Lord, we just pray that you would draw the ones that don't know Christ as their Savior.
Draw on, Lord.
And I pray that they will heed that.
Draw, Father, and they will come to Christ, Lord.
You would open their eyes to that cross, Lord.
Show them Christ on that cross, dying for their sins, Father, and show them the forgiveness that only faith in Christ will bring.
Lord, we just thank you so much, Lord, for each and every person who comes to hear your word.
Father, we thank you for the caregivers here, Lord, that care for these people.
And we just pray, Lord, that they'll take care of these people the way you want them to be taken care of, Lord.
Lord, we just thank you so much, Lord.
We're going to pray for those who are sick, Lord, and need healing in their bodies, Father.
And we want to pray for those who need healing in their spiritual bodies as well, Lord.
Just draw them to Christ, Father.
We thank you so much for Jesus.
We thank you for your Holy Spirit, Father.
And we thank you for your precious word, Lord.
Thank you for all that you do, Lord, for all you do us good, Lord.
We love you and we thank you so much, Father.
In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.
